Which means they get to slap their name all over it just for hosting a few hundred Ks of JPEGs?
Sorry, I just hate watermarking when it's done by someone other than the image owner [loose term, I'm not going to go into a major rant about it here]. Why not tag it in the corner "property of Joe Ng, do not restribute"? That said, in general I find watermarking rather daft [even if i do acknowledge the necessity for artists to clearly mark their work] - generally you either end up with something that can be erased with ease, or end up ****ing up a picture. I wouldn't dream of watermarking scans I made of someone else's work, or to be honest adding a TFDB watermark to any submitted art [hah! I do have some, and it rocks. Animated combining Micromasters baby!]. M'eh, maybe Joe wanted to advertise a board on his art, I dunno. But like "somebody" says, TFW2005 went well OTT, to the effect it looks like a graphic for their site with some art in the background.

Hello. Did anyone save these War Within Issue #5 pages that Joe Ng has shared? They seem to have been taken down and I can't seem to find them anywhere. I really wouldn't care if they have a water mark or not. I would just love to see them, since War Within was so awesome and Joe is such a talented artist.
Thanks in advance!

I used to like NG's work... I thought it looked more rigorous than Lee's one (or his ghost-pencillers').

Not that the art is in any way bad, I should point out that the art shown above was drawn by Marcelo Matere
http://transfans.co.uk/interviews_marcelo.php
I think the following were drawn by Joe Ng:

http://1db.deviantart.com/art/The-War-W ... 3-40007782
http://1db.deviantart.com/art/The-War-W ... 5-40007863
I have a feeling that for consistency purposes, or others, the artists emulated Pat Lee's household style.

Non-Dreamwave art by both artists comes nowhere close to the style:

http://mmatere.deviantart.com/art/Griml ... s-85024567
I was a big fan of the Dreamwave storylines, especially the War Within and just wanted to see if anyone had some of the unpublished pages that they could share with those interested in seeing them, and those who still hope for a conclusion some day. In no way did I resurrect this thread to prompt a bashing of the artists that were part of the War Within.

Tough. Discussion board. The 'House Style' thing is a bum steer, otherwise everything would have come out looking that dreadful. And just because Ng can come out with the odd good poster or piece of fan art doens't mean he's a good strip artist - his Energon work was diabolical, and Age of Wrath wasn't much of an improvment.LordGrimlock wrote:In no way did I resurrect this thread to prompt a bashing of the artists that were part of the War Within.

"Better than Pat Lee" isn't much of an accolade.
The art for volume three was pretty awful at the time, and only looks worse after seeing Don tighten up somewhat away from Dreamwave and what artists with backgrounds of mechanical diagramming (and just generally not drawing stuff at random sizes) such as Su can produce.

Mmm, the Dreamwave comics have aged quite badly, haven't they? It's not just the alleged house style (James Raiz and even early Don blow that particular red herring clean out of the water), it's just the ludicrous brightness and the low panel count. Whatever else I'd criticise IDW for, the majority of their books have benefitted from largely consistent artwork that tends to move the story instead of smothering it, and the colour palette is a lot more subtle.
The Age of Wrath looked like a Pat Lee parody - distorted poses (what the **** is happening to Magnus' back in the first page of the second row? He looks like he's crouching to fit in the frame), ridiculous overdetailing, complete lack of perspective. The "BIG NO!!!" splash gives him a screwed up double elbow, and a facial expression which could be anything if you bothered editing the speech bubble. Everything's 'shit' from low angles which only serve to highlight that they're all inflatable dolls with tiny heads. I could go on...

I've been re-reading Dreamwave's stuff, and the elephantitis artwork makes it a real chore to tell whats going on. Particualrly with James McDonagh's stuff, here's a guy who desperately needed an artist who can do storytelling (which admittedly he did get with the ongoing) , instead we get the fat fingered renderings of Pat Lee (easily the worst artist working anywhere in comics. at least Rob Liefeld gave you a few chuckles) and that awful mess that is Micromasters by the chump Ruffalo: Key action sequences happening out of frame? check. perma-squatting robots? check. Dialogue heavy scenes diffficult to fatham 'cos the characters can't fit in the frame? check. Awful.
