Binaltech Overdrive translations!

Post by Nevermore »

Sorry I didn't post this earlier, but some minor conflict of interests here. :)

LagunaL8 was first.

Bio
Intro page
System description and Binaltech story chapter 9

Meanwhile, Raijin Optimus of Fan to Fan and yours sincerly took some more time to clean up the details and look up the obscure references. As a result, it took us a little longer, but here's our own version:

Binaltech story chapter 9

Now, the observations:

"Durabyllium". As Raijin Optimus spotted, it was taken from Catilla's (!!!) tech spec.

"Honda Wako Basic Technology Research Center" have indeed "more experience in developing humanoid robots". See here. :)

I like the comments on the "humanitarian issues." LOL!

That does beg the question though...why did Honda allow the gun barrel on the BT figure, but not on the Alt figure?

Two theories:
a) Different marketing departments for Honda US/Honda Japan (Honda USA: "NO GUN!", Honda Japan: "Uh, we don't care"
b) Different licensing laws, Honda: "NO GUN!", Takara:" Screw you."

Oh, and for those interested: Overdrive's characterization is based on the original Japanese tech spec, not the DW MTMTE profile which completely ignores the tech spec.

Interesting, indeed. I don't think Dreamwave really ignored the Japanese tech specs, rather they just didn't know. Of course, they were intending to be revisionist about Overlord, Deszaras, and Dai Atlas, so I'm probably wrong.

Does anyone have translations of the original Omnibots' Japanese tech specs? All I've got are their numbers and their functions.
