New Transformers game. Looks like the original cartoon!

Post by Auntie Slag »

Has anyone heard anything about this yet? It sounds phenomenomenomenal!

Imagine playing... G1 cartoon Tracks mincing about on a yacht squirting ink at someone from his expensive fountain pen. Well, now it might be possible that you can do it!

If this happens it will be like the ultimate Transformer computer game you never dreamed possible as a kid!

Never been a fan of cel-shading but definitely looks like it could be interesting. Wonder exactly what they mean by 'brawler'. Kind of hope they're talking something Dynasty Warriors-esque, which looks possible given some of the screenshots floating around.

Is it real? If so, then yesssss. I would play this.

Hope it's as good as these shots look.

Brawler: Hopefully something of a mix between Final Fight, Golden Axe, Double Dragon and Street Fighter II. With any luck utilising some of the special skills of the G1 robots. We can already see in the screenshots that Prime has his golden axe (ho ho), so that might suggest Sideswipe gets a rocket pack, Jazz has a Bionic Commando grappling hook and light show thing, Ironhide squirts glue and dies, Huffer has a 'mope' attack and Wheeljack's weapons blow up before he fires them.

Wouldn't it be cool to teleport like Skywarp? And do Thundercrackers sonic boom, stunning everyone on the game map temporarily?

Or engaging in a team match where you dress in oversized lab coats? Now that's robots in disguise! (whoever's plan that was it does suggest scientists on Cybertron wore lab coats).

Well, thanks to a Canadian Best Buy website listing, we know a few things:

Gonna be on Xbox One, Xbox360, PS3 and 4
5 confirmed playable Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Sideswipe, and Grimlock
At least some of the original cast reprising their roles: Peter Cullen, Frank Welker and Dan Gilvezan mentioned specifically
5 Difficulty levels and developed by Platinum Games
And some plot stuff about Megatron trying to use Plasma Energy to cyberform Earth.

Seems like it'll be worth a go

And of course, no PC version. God forbid if someone actually wanted to mod this.

Nothing says a PC version isn't happening yet. I'd give it some time before writing it off yet. It hasn't even been officially announced yet, as far as I know. All the info seems to be coming from leaks and a pre-order listing.

Sadly many of platinums games haven't made it to pc for whatever reasons. Their games are generally very good to excellent so id have high hopes for this - although the inclusion of last gen formats may mean its a budget title.

There's a 40-odd second trailer on the Youtubes, doesn't give much detail, but vehicle modes are utilized, at least for some attack purposes by Bumblebee.

EDIT: That took way too many tries and looking crap up to get to work right

Blurbgle! I love the hair metal guitar and wacky Sunbow shading tripping off their metalwork. One of my favourite things about the '86 movie was all the shadow overload on every robot!

...are those generic Decepticons based on Runabout and Runamuck?

Looks refreshingly straightforward and simple. It would be nice to play as the Decepticons, say, but cramming in a boring campaign mode full of bad acting to accommodate that is not a worthwhile tradeoff.

They've taken the right design cues from the show too - it's easy to tell everyone apart.

Game Informer dun did one of them article things

Key points:
  • Kenji Saito, the guy who directed Metal Gear Rising, headed up the team
  • Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, Frank Welker as Megatron and Soundwave, Greg Berger as Grimlock, Michael Bell as Sideswipe, and Dan Gilvezan as Bumblebee
  • Ranged and Melee weapons, up to 4 equipped at a time. 150 distinct weapons, including Wheeljack's wrenches (oh how I hope for the Shockblast cannon with a chance to backfire)
  • Seems there's some sort of random loot system
  • Tech spec stat based leveling system
  • Crafting system

ENOUGH WITH THE RANDOM CRAFTING SYSTEMS ALREADY!

*cough*

Why is this sounding like Borderlands with Transformers characters?

We don't know how random the crafting is, the Game Informer article is rather vague. Talks about taking two weapons, mashing them together, and getting the best traits of both. Seems that would give some amount of control. Though there was also mention of a timed crafting mini-game for determining the quality of non-weapon items. Need more details and such.

I think I'd be cool with Transformers: Borderlands, depending on how it comes out. We're still very early in the reveal and thus light on details, but I'm pretty optimistic.

And we've got a 10 minute video from E3 with some of the devs and gameplay footage.
Edit: Volume seems low on the video, I had to crank it up.

EDIT: Time to tuck in some details now that I've watched.
  • At about 8:30 or so in the video, they go to some cutscene exposition dialogue involving Prime and Wheeljack. Sounds a bit more like modern Prime voice from Cullen, and whoever they got for Wheeljack doesn't do a bad job on the impersonation.
  • Transformation gets utilized for combos, dodging, and what they call a rush attack. Basically getting up to full speed before launching into a special combo.
  • Story driven, so despite only playing as Autobots we're supposed to get a good bit of depth for both sides.
  • Both a full retail release and available for download (so full game and not some quick cash in)
  • Bonecrusher is seen in the video with the Devastator forearm with drillbit attached, looks like he'll be using it as a weapon in bot and maybe vehicle mode.
  • Generic Runa-cons were seen as enemies, as were generic coneheads, and I assume Insecticon clones (if not the actual Insecticons).
  • Looks like there's a bossfight against Soundwave, or atleast the pair of Laserbeak and Ravage.
Optimism continues.

Oh, one last important thing I forgot. Prime's truck mode is generally seen sans trailer. However, it does appropriately appear out of nowhere for a pretty bitchin' looking tailwhip attack.
