Random digression: Anyone else read "One Fine Day In The Middle Of The Night" by Christopher Brookmyre (which is set in Glasgow)? Just been lent it and it's hilariously brilliant...
edit: "the touching story of what happens when the former pupils of an ordinary Glasgow high school are reunited after fifteen long years; reminiscence, reconciliation, old secrets, rekindled passions, joy, laughter, hijackers, murder, vengeance, machine-guns, rocket-launchers ... that sort of things."

Halfway through so far...warming up for the action. Thus far: Inventive and entertaining use of vocab, a talent for sketching amusing visual scenes, and lots of interesting observations on life. The preface reads, "The following is based on a true story" ...which is a nicely absurd little touch.Originally posted by RCOSD
Denyer, i'm doing that book in my sixth year higher course. So, how do you rate it?
The quality of the dialects used in the dialogue I'll leave up to you to decide...but the author was born in the locale he uses as a setting (which, er, may or may not help, really).
edit: The_Dinobots — Mainly, just dismiss the more obvious generalisations about the British and their "elevenses", and you'll be fine...I've actually seen that in genuine and current US travel guidebook literature...
