I have this rather heavy, in all senses, toy. He's still in the box. He looks great. Even if he is an Autobot and not a Decepticon. I was going to free him from the package at some juncture when I needed cheering up and enjoy pressing his buttons (as it were).
I like Cullen's OP. It's the voice I will always remember, alongside Welker's Megatron, from G1. He's so smooth and powerful. An iron fist inside a velvet glove. So very... um, commanding.
This? Oh, dear.

And he sounds too evil when saying "energon and a lot of luck".
Wait? He's doing lines from the 20 year old movie? I was going to say that I don't have speakers on my work compy, and the reactions sounded a bit over the top, but in a case like this, that's just plain lazy. With 36 trillion copies of that movie on dvd, they could've at least ripped the sounds off the dvd and used those. Though, I suppose they might have to pay him royalties or somesuch . . .
"Autobots transform and roll out"
"I want you to make a special run to Autobot City"
"Megatron must be stopped"
"All we need is a little energon and a lot of luck"
*Transforming sounds*
Especially with it being the 20th Anniversary you'd think they would put a little effort into it. Then again it is Hasbro.

Wow--that's so bad it's almost comical. It's like some guy they picked up on the street is just reading the lines from a script because their real pick forgot to show or something.
People should buy them, keep the figure, but send the base back to Hasbro demanding an apology. haha

Wow, those are all lines that they could have pulled from the movie. I'm not sure if he says "Transform and roll out" in the movie, but there's at least 60-odd episodes that they could rip that from . . .

That's why this is all so very, very sad. I am assuming that greed overcame their scruples, especially as they figured that loads of us would spin out the dosh in order to have this in our collection.

I don't even think of it as greed, as much as straight up laziness. It couldn't have cost them much to just extract the sound. Even if there's royalties involved, they really aren't spending all that much on what amounts to a straight repack, for the most part. The fact that every dvd company around is releasing this movie leads me to believe that any royalty fee would be minimal.
I honestly don't care much, as it's a nice piece, in and of itself, and if I could afford to drop serious change on it (or thought it was worth saving up for), I would've done that when it first came out. I'll prolly pick it up if it's on clearance again. All in all, I think they dropped the ball, as it wouldn't have taken someone more than an hour to rip the appropriate phrases.
Hell, if it was that much trouble, they might as well have just not released the talking stand at all.
