Why wasn't Sentinel prime or Magus in the Beast Wars?

They were primes and leaders. Shouldn't they have been looking for rogue predacons and missing maximals?

Nah, Magus was the evil alternate/possible future self of Adam Warlock.

Unless you're talking about the ruler of the alien Technarchy race, who was also called Magus and was the father of Warlock who joined the New Mutants.

No idea about Magus, but Sentinel Prime wasn't even a thing back in the 90s when Beast Wars happenned. Correct me if I'm wrong, but his backstory and personality comes from IDW, I think.

Boring real world answer: the show cost a lot to make, so the cast was deliberately small.

Before IDW, Sentinel Prime was a name and not much else. We knew from the Marvel comics that he was one of Optimus's predecessors, but I think that's all we knew. Well, that plus the fact he was long dead before Beast Wars happened.
