Jetfire
Personal Profile:
Hasbro was taking a chance when they added the Jetfire toy to the Transformers
toyline in 1985. Robotech was already using Jetfires mould in their
toyline. Unfortunately, legal problems ensued and Jetfires character
on the cartoon series had to be given a different name and a slightly
different design. Jetfire kept his name and design in the comic. In both
the comic and cartoon, started out as a Decepticon and later chose to
switch sides and become an Autobot. He was the first to introduce the
idea of changing factions, which happened rarely in all Transformers stories.
Episodes appeared in: Fire in the Sky, Fire on the Mountain, The Ultimate Doom parts 2 and 3, A Plague of Insecticons, Attack of the Autobots, The Immobilizer and Day of the Machines.
Cartoon Bio:
Jetfire was known as Skyfire in the cartoon. Skyfire was created before
the war. He was originally a scientist who was interested in exploration.
He was a good friend of Starscream, who was also a scientist before the
war. On an exploration journey, the two were caught in an ice storm on
an unknown planet. They were separated and Skyfire was crashed into the
planets surface and was frozen. Starscream searched the planet relentlessly
for his friend, but was forced to return to Cybertron after all hopes
of finding Skyfire was lost. As Skyfire lay buried in his icy prison,
the Great War started on Cybertron and a group of Autobots and Decepticons
crash-landed on the planet Skyfire was trapped in, known as Earth. As
the Autobots and Decepticons continued their battle on Earth, the Decepticons
found Skyfire and released him from the ice. Starscream was a member of
the Decepticons at that time, and seeing that his old friend had joined
the Decepticons, Skyfire joined as well. Thinking that the
Autobots were his enemies, Skyfire attacked the Autobots, but spared the
lives of two human Autobot allies. When Megatron said that the humans
were to be destroyed, Skyfire began to have doubts about his allegiance.
When Starscream was about to execute a small group of Autobots, Skyfire
tried to stop him and was blasted for it. This was the last straw for
Skyfire, who tore away his Decepticon symbol and officially joined the
Autobots. While attempting to foil the Decepticons plans to steel energy,
Skyfire was once again buried under tons of ice. Fortunately for him,
his new allies, the Autobots, rescued him. In his first mission as an
Autobot, he was sent to stop the Decepticons from using
a weapon made form an ancient Incan crystal. During a confrontation between
Starscream and Thundercracker, Skyfire was hit and captured by the Decepticons.
It was Bumblebee and Spike who had to rescue him from the Decepticons
and Skyfire was then able to help foil the Decepticons plans.
Skyfire
played vital roles in stopping the Decepticons when they brought Cybertron
into Earths atmosphere and also when the Decepticons formed an alliance
with the Insecticons. Skyfire was an important part of the Autobots
fight against the Decepticons during their early years on Earth. He
did not make many appearances in significant battles later on though.
He may have been stationed somewhere else in the galaxy, or he could have
been destroyed in battle. During a fight with the Quintessons in 2006
an Autobot jet that looked very similar to Skyfire was destroyed. It is
unknown as to whether the jet was actually Skyfire. Because of the lack
of evidence, Skyfires fate in the war is unknown.
Comic
Biography: Jetfire was created by the acting Decepticon
Commander, Shockwave. Shockwave had control of Optimus Prime and the Creation
Matrix at the time. His original plan was to create an army of Jetfires
that he would use to add heavy air support to the Decepticon Army. His
plan was foiled by the efforts of Buster Witwicky and the Autobots. Not
only was the plan to have an army of Jetfires ended, but also Jetfire
himself defected to the Autobots. Jetfire was crucial in freeing Optimus
Prime from Shockwave and played a major role in the Autobot army after.
When Optimus Prime was killed,Jetfire was one of the prime candidates
to take over as leader of the Autobots. That honour was given to Grimlock,
however.Jetfire worked under Grimlock, even though he resented his new
leader as many of the Autobots did.Jetfire
served the Autobot cause well, until he confronted Starscream, who was
empowered by the Underbase. Starscream totalled Jetfire, along with a
lot of other Autobots and Decepticons in his attack. Jetfires body
remained in the Ark along with the other casualties of the attacks. It
is not known whether or not Jetfire was resurrected by Grimlocks
Nucleon. If he wasnt, then his body was probably destroyed when
the Ark crashed into Northern Canada after the Unicron Battle.
